THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY
Roof Redesign and Refurbishment
Client: The Science Museum, London
WMA was commissioned to redesign and refurbish a number of existing roofs on the Science Museum. The main roof over the East Hall has been replaced with a new curved structure, which incorporates a significant number of photovoltaic cells.
Both standard PV panels and cells laminated into glazing are incorporated into the design providing electricity from solar energy to help provide power to a new Energy Exhibition in the East Hall directly below. The direct current from the solar energy is used to power the decorative LED lighting installation.
