Creative Arts Block
Client: Ashfield School
WMA was commissioned to undertake a programme of regeneration works across Ashfield School, Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Phase 1 involved the design and construction of a new Creative Arts Faculty building to replace the existing obsolete music and drama facilities.
The striking building consists of a two-storey block built around a central ‘heart space’ that links the new building to the existing. The new and improved facilities include new dance and drama studios at ground floor and music classrooms and practice rooms at first floor.
Externally the building uses a strong brick form with contrasting darker recessed brick panels and contemporary coloured feature panels set within the glazing units to create a bold and attractive façade. This bold colour scheme creates an impressive contrast to the surrounding existing buildings.
Internally the bold colour scheme is reflected in the ‘heart space’ where the double-height feature wall hosts a dramatic mural themed on drama and dance which was designed and commissioned by WMA.
The fresh colour schemes and contemporary finishes to the music rooms and classrooms at first floor continues the theme and helps to create stimulating learning environments.
