Client: Ashgate Hospice

Set in open countryside, the extension to Ashgate Hospice has provided over 1700m² of new and improved facilities for both In-Patient and Out-Patient care.

The two-storey extension is linked to the existing Grade II Listed hospice building which dates back to 1674. The building was therefore sensitively designed to take into account the original setting and history of the building and Listed Building Consent was granted.

The extension provides 16 additional en-suite single patient bedrooms on both ground and first floors, with each bedroom having direct access to an individual outdoor patio space or balcony area.

The circular form of the Out-Patients building allows the design of internal spaces to be more interesting and inviting. The open plan arrangement, avoiding corridors wherever possible, precludes an institutional feel to the interior and enables patients and visitors to feel more at ease throughout the building.

The Out-Patient facilities include a Day Care Centre for up to 16 patients. The open plan environment enables maximum flexibility of the space, essential for the different activities. The centre also has views and direct access out onto the landscaped gardens.
